Reminder: Stamp Out Hunger 2010 Food Drive is tomorrow!

Here's my reminder to you! Don't forget to put out your bag of non-perishable food items tomorrow morning. Some may have even received a plastic bag in their mailbox from their letter carriers. That was nice of them to do. My bag of goodies is all set to go. My hubby kept looking through it saying why are you are giving that away?! Seriously. Funny stuff there. You can also become a fan/like Stamp Out Hunger on Facebook and Campbells will donate 1 can of soup (up to 1 million cans). That's awesome!

Stamp Out Hunger 2010 Food Drive is May 8!

Time to get out all of those extra food items that you get for free on Double Daze (ha ha!). Stamp Out Hunger is happening on Saturday, May 8. Place non perishable food items like canned meats, fish, soup, juice, vegetables, pasta, rice and cereal near your mailbox and your postal carrier will pick them up. Please do not include anything in glass or that is expired. Also, if you become a fan of Stamp Out Hunger on Facebook and Campbell's will donate one can of soup to Feeding America. Awesome. This is such an easy way to donate. Heck, even if it's that can of creamed corn that no one at your houes is eating. It's part of a much needed meal for another. I'll try to remind you when it's closer.

Sack it to Goodwill pick up tomorrow!

Don't forget that the Sack it to Goodwill North Central Wisconsin drive is happening tomorrow. It's the agency's biggest collection day of the year! This is a great way to give back. Goodwill does so many great things for the community so I love to donate. I always like these drives because they come and get your items. That's a bonus. I usually have to plan out my route so that I can stop by one of the drop off locations. There should have been a Goodwill bag in your local Sunday paper a couple of weeks ago. All you have to do is fill it and leave it on the curb before 9 AM Saturday April 17. If you did not receive a bag or misplaced yours you can use any box or bag. You just need to clearly mark them. If you miss the pick up you can bring them into any of the many locations listed here.

Got seeds?!

As of March 18 The Dinner Garden is back logged from requests pouring in. I really hope that everyone isn't requesting 'FREE' seeds because they are free. I saw this posted on a lot of blogs lately with no information whatsoever. Most just said 'get your free seeds here.' If you do donate money to The Dinner Garden it's completely tax-deductible. As of right now they can't send any seeds because their orders went from 20 per day to thousands per day.

Head on over to The Dinner Garden. The Dinner Garden is a wonderful organization trying to end hunger by getting you to plant a garden. Don't have the room? Not true. Don't have the seeds? They can help. They are trying to spread the word that everyone can have a garden. Even if it means getting a little help from them.

We assist those in need in establishing food security for their families. Our goal is for people to plant home, neighborhood, and container gardens so they can use the vegetables they grow for food and income." -The Dinner Garden 

There is a little bit of everything you need to know about gardening on their site. From getting free seeds all the way through to seed saving once you harvest. My favorite part is how much that they stress anyone can and is a gardener. Even if it's just a pot on your window sill or an open spot in between your Hostas. This is totally my thinking too.  Now my only goal isn't to get the word out about free seeds, supplies and help-it's to get the word out about a great organization. So if you could use some more seeds how about you send some extra their way so it's fair. They take monetary donations and seed donations (actually anything you can send their way is appreciated) which is really cool. Here's where to send it:

Campbell's Click for Cans

Here is a great way to help get our local Feeding America foodbank 18,000 cans of soup. The soup will be donated by Campbell's Chunky soup and the NFL. All 32 teams will receive 1000 cans of soup. The AFC and NFC champs will receive an additional 12,000 cans. Overall champ will get a bonus 5,000 cans for a grand total of 18,000 cans of soup! Currently the Packers and the Jacksonville Jaguars are in the 'Souperbowl.' Being a NEW mommie I am voting for the Packers, of course. I hope you do too. Text HAITI to help Red Cross relief efforts.

We have all heard about the horrific earthquake that has taken place in Haiti. What do we do? What can we do? It's the worst feeling: helplessness. What can we possibly do so many thousands of miles away from Haiti? If you are spiritual you can pray. It's free. :) You can also get in contact with the many humanitarian organizations eager to help. The American Red Cross is one good example. The Red Cross is asking that even though you may be making an attempt to travel to Haiti that the best and easiest way to help is to make a donation. I am singling out the texting because I never knew about this option before the earthquake in Haiti. You can text HAITI to 90999. This will add an amount of $10 to your cell phone bill. Some carries are still charging standard text messaging rates, but some are dropping the charge for this particular situation. Sprint, AT&T and Verizon were listed as not charging as of Thursday.
